I would like to respectfully support your analysis by adding an important qualifier to the government’s sense of entitlement to radically change our system. About 5-6 Knesset seats were lost when Meretz and Balad failed to make the cut-off of enough votes (sufficient to grant 4 seats in the Knesset). In other words, through a failure of our system, the government’s parliamentary majority reflects effective parity between coalition and opposition.
The basis upon which this coalition coalesces is so extreme and was NEVER put to the public. And poll after poll confirms that it would not be supported by the public. So many democratic countries are slipping into illiberalism/non democracy........in plain sight. The consequences for Israel, though, are particularly dire.
