Thank you for your response Vivian. By the way, it’s not that I completely disagree with you, or put the complete blame on the Biden Administration, but this needs to be factored in to what you and Ya’ackov discussed yesterday. Also I am no fan of Bibi, he’s the one responsible for letting Sinwar walk during the Shalit deal and now the Qatarqate scandal which he is responsible for and trying to shirk responsibility by going after Ronan Bar. It’s a very sad state of affairs. Israel needs new leadership. We can only hope and pray that this war ends with Hamas decimated and our hostages home. I joined State of Tel-Aviv from following you on Twitter/X for many years. I have great respect for your opinions and agree with you more than you think. May you go from strength to strength with this platform. G-d Bless. Am Yisrael Chai🐺💪🇮🇱
Thanks for your lovely note. I really appreciate the tone. As you have observed.....I really do work hard, very hard, to assess the facts/information available and arrive at a responsible position. In the past I have discussed the Biden factor on the pod - with Ya'akov among others. I think it's fair to say that particularly in retrospect the views on American urging restraint......are more complex than they. may have seemed at the time. Yes, the pressure in January and February was intense. All eyes on Rafah. But this question remains: If Philadelphi and Rafah were so critical to success.......why did the IDF not begin the operation there? It waited. And waited. And waited. Not until May 21 did IDF go into Rafah. My understanding is that the delay is not explained solely as a response to US pressure.
So, yes. It's complex as can be. It's safe to assume that we know very little....even those of us who work hard to be informed. And we have a government that seems to be very scattershot in terms of strategy. I mean - senior cabinet ministers openly disagree with respect to war goals in Gaza.
Having said all that - I always appreciate well intentioned feedback. And you're correct. Perhaps we should have introduced the Biden factor......it's like writing an exam......afterwards there are always things you wish you'd said/done/written. We cram a lot into our time.......but point taken. shabbat shalom. v
Listened to your program this morning. What you fail to realise or acknowledge is that Israel finds itself in the position it’s in, regarding this war is due to the previous Biden Administration. Israel was not allowed to fight the war the way it wanted to because threats to withhold weaponry from the Biden Administration. In fact, they did withhold certain weapons from Israel that were needed and weren’t released until Trump came back to office. Remember how Biden threatened and kept us from going into Rafa for months? I am no Bibi fan and believes he bears responsibility for a lot things regarding this war, but Biden is responsible for the the death of many of our soldiers and the death of hostages by putting pressure on Israel. Also people in his Administration were looking to get rid of Bibi which is disturbing enough. It’s only because Trump is in office that Israel has the green light to do what needs to be done.
The truth is that every other country has the right to defend itself, except Israel/Jews. Yes, there’s plenty to criticise Bibi over, but the reality was that America held Israel back.
With respect, I do not faile to realize or acknowledge. I have formed a different understanding and perspective than you have. As, clearly, has Ya'akov. And as have many highly credible security and military professionals and analysts. Whatever the cause for where we are - and putting it all at Biden's feet is a highly contentious assertion - here we are. And there seem to be very divergent views in government and the IDF as to what exactly is the plan. And that is a huge issue for reservist and general population morale. That's my view. Clearly, you see this differently. There's plenty of blame to go around. Fact is - Bibi has been at the helm for much of the last two decades and he was there on October 7 and he is there today. So. I think there's an accountability issue. Thanks for being here.
