Four years ago Visegrad24 started out as a Twitter account intending to provide a version of current events in Poland and the region that offered a different perspective; one that did not parrot what its founders considered to be an overly left-wing point of view that they felt was pervasive in news coverage.
On October 7th, I said to my wife and family this is a seminal moment in Jewish History, and Western Civilization. I told my family that if you think the attacks are horrendous, just wait till you hear and see the world's reaction. I agree with the discussion about a loss of a moral anchor for Western Society. Social media has exposed and exploited the phenomenon of relativism and equivalency. Everyone is an expert and all opinions and "facts" are equal. No underpinning of learned opinions. No need to support absurd fallacies
Jews have survived because of our combined belief in something bigger than us that determines outcomes in the universe. Whether one is religious in their understanding or secular the feeling is the same. We came from a special place and it is our job and responsibility to keep it going for the sake of all mankind. We will teach the world the evil of hatred and intolerance. Tikun Olum in its largest sense and true understanding. People who think this conflict is only about the Jews and Israel are greatly mistaken. It is and will become their fight as well.
Agree fully that this is a fight/battle of civilizations. Europe seems to understand this, for the most part. N America is a little slower on coming round. Let’s hope they wake up sooner rather than later.
Vivian, Thank you for responding. I greatly appreciate your work. Please keep it up. The US as you know is spinning towards a very unpopular election. The rise of anti-semitism on the left has shown its ugly face in the Democratic Party, who ever would have thought that the Republican Party would be the " protector of the Jews". American Jews are a very confused bunch. They are stung by the betrayal of the left but have no idea what to do next. The loyal assimilated German Jews felt the same. Are we capable of learning from history. Stay tuned. We shall see.
