The Intifada is now officially globalized. Antisemitism has been allowed to metastasize in both Australia and Canada. Their leaders should not be surprised, or allow it any longer.
Another tragedy watching the footage almost live last night, was the actions of the cops (Australian police).. In one of the videos a police car just drives right by them whilst they are shooting, a full 6 minutes before anyone shot back at them. Other reports of police just standing around not sure what to do, right from the start of the attack.. Really makes you wonder if our police force is even capable of protecting the populace if and when horrific events like this occur..
It was actually civilians that went in, as you say one taking a gun away in one case and others confirming the terrorists were down before the police moved in.
"Ahmed El Ahmed, a 43-year-old man, apparently Muslim"
It doesn't really matter at the end of the day, though I see a lot of disagreement on this, some claiming a muslim and others a lebanese christian, maybe too soon to know.
Totally agree, Joel. His religion or nationality don't matter. I thought I was clear on that. And Ahmed - it's a Muslim name - not Christian. Having said that.....who cares. He is an extraordinarily brave and good man. To have that courage. Apparently he has a policing background......so had some idea as to what to do. As for the real cops, as you say, ......what, exactly, are they doing? I fear it's a bit of poor training and also fear of getting in the midst of such events. Which I guess is poor training. Regular cops aren't trained to deal with terrorist events and we are probably asking too much of them. Western cities need to wake up and develop special response teams.
And the people? Need to demand more from political and law enforcement leadership. Even today in Sydney - at a vigil - the Free Pal crowd turned up to disrupt. At candle lighting events in N America few showed up. My kids asked me.....if we were still in Toronto, would I take them? I think not. Police there openly support the pro Hamas/Free Pal/globalize the intifada crowd. I have zero confidence in their ability or interest in protecting Jews, based on two years of experience. This did not happen overnight. And it's not going away or improving magically. I hope people see the light, soon.
yes, thanks, I agree the name is strange if christian, anyway moving on, doesn't really matter.. (edit, all solved.. His parents have spoken to the media, they are Syrian Muslims, the confusion was that the media had misreported he ran the fruit shop in Southerland, but he runs a Tobacconist, hence confused identities as locals were saying the fruit shop is run by a Lebanese christian chap).
Worst part about that woman (Michelle Berkon) that showed up at Bondi today, apparently she is jewish :-/ She even lead a protest of a synagogue in Sydney. I really don't know what to say about that, better I don't say any more..
"I have zero confidence in their ability or interest in protecting Jews, based on two years of experience. "
Yeah it is starting to feel that way, though this has seemed to finally have angered a lot of people outside the jewish community, whether that translates into any action, we will see..
And yes I wouldn't take my kids here in Australia either... anymore... at least not an exposed outdoor event like that..
When I wrote my piece I held off on the green grocer detail and went with "shop owner". As for his religion/country of origin - I quite agree. People became very preoccupied with that. I am focused on his actions. They say it all. Apparently he had some sort of formal law enforcement training. His parents said he understood immediately what was going on and what needed to be done. Unarmed. And armed cops. ducked for cover.
I hate to be a spoiler but I don't see people in Canada doing much. There should be huge marches organized. Counter protests every week with tens of thousands - at Bathurst and Sheppard. Block the access of the haters to the plaza and side streets. People have to demonstrate. Otherwise, things will just carry on as they have been. On Sunday, when the Islamist thugs went through Bathurst Manor, again, attending cops told residents to "be nice" to those who had travelled so far to incite hatred against them and their families. For real.
That is what passes for "law enforcement" in Toronto.
And if people like us would not take our kids to outdoor events......well, what more do you need to know. Nothing will change in Toronto. Or Canada. I'm sorry to say.
Another tragic day for the Jewish people. Brilliant article Vivian. Keep exposing and calling out the politicians who do nothing, and shockingly continue…to do nothing!
Thanks, Karen. Politicians and regular folks. People have to wake up and understand that one day they're going to be in the crowd. The apathy is insane. Islamists hate Jews. Sure. But they hate all infidels. Horrific and real. When they say globalize the intifada - they mean it.
Vivian, it truly is remarkable that the very same people that are supporting this antisemitic hatred all over the world, are the very same infidels that the Islamic extremist are coming after next. Talk about Eyes Wide Shut! Globalize the intifada??? What???!!
Excellent Vivian! I thank you for keeping us all tuned in even though it’s very difficult to read. Our world as we knew it is changing by the day. We all have to wake up to reality‼️
Thanks for reading and chiming in, Joanne. Much appreciated. Indeed. We've moved quite far along a dangerous continuum in the last two years......and the momentum is still building. We have to wake up and stand up. Organize publicly. Push back. Jews and non Jews. It's madness.
No single person makes that decision. if it is truly a municipal matter it will be handled at that level. Ideally cops and elected leadership and other stakeholders all have input. But this is way beyond zoning violations. This is a national security issue and the feds should have taken charge from Day 1.

Yup. They have a remarkable capacity for self-delusion. My personal fave is Queers for Palestine. You really have to wonder.....

Who decides what action police will take? Mayor — Police Chief — Premier — Attorney General??
