This is a short note to let you know what we’ve been up to and what’s coming your way from State of Tel Aviv and Beyond.
For starters, my column on the Druze crisis in Syria – in which Israel became directly and deeply embroiled – ran on Saturday in the National Post. As has been the case with my columns lately, this one is paywalled, so I cannot set it out here… or I’ll quite rightly incur the wrath of my editor. But you may want to go for a trial subscription to what is unquestionably the best daily (almost) newspaper in paper in Canada these days.

Special Podcast Series on Gaza Humanitarian Crisis
Beginning today we will be dropping a series of podcasts focusing on the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. Our followers have been asking us to address this and we have been working on the issue for some time. It’s so complex and simple at once. People are starving. They need food and water and the basics to sustain life. Simple. Heartbreakingly so.
They are suffering for many reasons. The world seems intent at attributing full responsibility for this tragedy to Israel. But that is neither true nor responsible. There are many players in this dreadful situation, among them - Hamas. It is a vicious, Islamist death cult that places no value on civilian life. And yet, Hamas is exonerated by western diplomats and media. Blameless.
The seduction of the west by Hamas is an extraordinarily worrisome situation. But – we’ll leave that for another time.
What matters now is getting sufficient aid into Gaza for civilian survival and health. And that is being done. Full throttle. Finally.
How this mess came to be is what State of Tel Aviv will examine closely for the next few days. We are working to speak with as wide a range of interests and organizations as possible. We’d love your feedback on this project.
We’d also appreciate your support for our work. Please consider taking out a paid subscription on this site. Or you can contribute a one-time amount to support our work at buymeacoffee.com/stateoftelaviv
We are an independent enterprise. And if you value what we are doing we would love for you to “express” your appreciation. Sorry (not sorry) to solicit so frequently but it seems to be necessary. There is an entrenched expectation that quality media content should be “free.” But, as we all know, nothing in life is free.
Thanks for being here…
