The scenes we saw in short clips from Montreal on Friday night should surprise no one.
Since October 7, 2023, all levels of government in Canada have failed—by design or due to incompetence—to understand and act on the gravity of the moment. The breezy tone is set at the top by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and trickles down. Trudeau’s strong antipathy towards Israel and Canadian Jews contrasts with his deep affinity for Islamists and all things Muslim. As the Hamas massacres were still ongoing in Israel, celebrations of the attack and slaughter broke out on Canadian streets. Trudeau was nonplussed. He and much of his caucus have consistently explained away violent Islamist hatred as “peaceful protest” and the “exercise of constitutional rights.”
But there has been nothing peaceful about most of the protests across Canada. (And Trudeau’s understanding of constitutional rights as being absolute—for those with whom he sympathizes—is just plain dumb and uninformed. Which is right on brand for him.)
Hatred, incitement, physical and verbal violence—these are several examples of criminal conduct that is not just tolerated in Canada when directed at Jews—it has become normalized. Threatening individuals and targeting neighborhoods that are heavily Jewish, vandalizing Jewish-owned businesses, blocking major transportation arteries and hubs, lobbing Molotov cocktails, and shooting live ammunition into Jewish schools and synagogues—none of those things raises an eyebrow among law enforcement or elected officials. Even “pop-up mosques"—typically blocking major downtown intersections and public transportation routes—are not just allowed; they are protected. By police officers.
Trudeau and his parliamentary colleagues blather lame bromides, condemning this and that now and then but really say nothing. They do even less.
University campuses across Canada have become hostile places where there is no “safe space” or accommodation for Jewish students or faculty. And Trudeau’s continued attacks on Israel (which are typically uninformed), when combined with the carte blanche he accords the Islamists—well, not surprisingly, the result is that he has emboldened the “peaceful protesters.”
Below are three clips from last night’s mayhem in Montreal: rioters doing their thing; burning Israeli PM Netanyahu in effigy; and one of many cars that was torched.
It took PM Trudeau close to 24 hours to even acknowledge this “event.” (In fairness, he was enjoying the Taylor Swift concert with his teenage daughter in Toronto as Montreal literally burned.) He did so in a bland, stupid tweet, careful not to say anything that might aggravate the Islamists.
As you can see, he basically says nothing. “Oh my. Violence is bad. We really must fix this. Goodbye.”
“There must be consequences…” is signature Trudeau vacuousness. That’s his way of pretending that this national crisis of Islamist violence is a municipal matter for police to manage. That has been his disingenuous approach to crisis management since October 7.
Below, please find a brief excerpt from my column in today’s National Post (Canada) about PM Justin Trudeau’s shameful position regarding the International Criminal Court’s decision to issue arrest warrants for Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu and former Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant. Justin Trudeau may be the most intellectually deficient, uniquely unqualified western leader of all time. And he has destroyed Canada. Even when he is gone, it is questionable whether his successor will be able to fix his destructive legacy.

Signing off, with deep disappointment but unflagging determination,
TEL AVIV — In May 2024, International Criminal Court Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan, K.C., abruptly cancelled a planned trip to Israel. Khan and ICC staff were meant to meet with Israeli officials in government, the military and NGO sectors.
Instead, on the same day he cancelled, Khan appeared before a panel of ICC judges, asking them to consider issuing arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, then Minister of Defence Yoav Gallant, as well as Hamas senior leaders Yahya Sinwar, Ismail Haniyeh, and Mohammed Deif.
It was no secret that Khan had long been mulling the possibility of slapping arrest warrants on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. That he did so while appearing to be engaged in working with Israel and the United States was malevolent and unprofessional.
One of the only examples of moral clarity by the Canadian government of late was, finally, deeming Samidoun a terrorist entity under Canadian law, which has led to more scrutiny of its activities and the arrest of Charlotte Kates a few weeks ago.
