Vivian, it seems as though Poilievre's chances have significantly deteriorated since Trump was elected. Do you think most Canadians are voting for Carney because they don't want to see Canada "go Right" like so many other countries?

Hey Jennifer. Sorry I missed this. Was travelling alot and my circadian rhythm was really thrown off this time! As you know the election happened and Pierre lost. I don't agree with the thesis you suggest - which I know many are talking about. I think it's much more complex. Pierre's policies were really lifted by Carney. And they are very centrist. The whole right-left spectrum in Canada is very different from the US _ much more like Europe. But I think that a large segment of Canada reacted hysterically to Trump. And a perception became entrenched that Carney, the sober central banker, was the right guy to shepherd the country through this difficult moment. But Carney is a central banker with a very hard left agenda. He is a climate zealot. He believes that personal privacy and fundamental freedoms - like expression - must be circumscribed in order to manage the climate threat. And he has some disturbingly intrusive views about the market and capitalism. He's made his hundreds of millions but now envisages a very different future. And he very openly supports press censorship. I think that Canadians are in for some serious shock treatment. I have another piece that ran in the Jewish Chronicle I'll drop tomorrow on this site. A Carney government is also really bad for Canadian Jews. We have already seen it. I was just in Toronto for a few weeks. it's heartbreaking what is going on there.
